Do you live in the country town of Gatton?
If you’re on acreage, consider incorporating a Home Sewage Treatment Plant (HSTP) or an on-site sewage facility on your land.
Gatton and the surrounding suburbs come under the Lockyer Valley local government area and as such, residents must adhere to the regulations for the installation and maintenance of their HSTP. We cover everything you need to know in more detail below!
What are On-site Sewerage Facilities?
As the name suggests, on-site sewerage facilities (OSSF) are used for the treatment of domestic sewage on-site, i.e., premises not connected to the municipal sewerage system.
OSSF includes:
- treatment plants
- grey water treatment facilities
- septic installations and
- composting toilets
Permits/Applications
All installations and replacements of OSSF require a plumbing and drainage permit.
To apply for a permit for an OSSF, you need to engage a Qualified Wastewater Designer. They will assess the type of on-site sewerage facility that best suits your property, produce a report and create a design plan. The report and design plan are required for submission.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council does not offer this service, but please contact us for the best advice on obtaining an effluent disposal report and design most suited to your property.
Servicing
It is compulsory to service the OSSF every three months or as per the Chief Executive Approval (Ecosafe has an annual service approval.) Owners are legally responsible to have the system serviced on time and any items rectified in a timely manner.
All servicing must be carried out by qualified persons. A copy of the report should also be forwarded to the owner and the Lockyer Valley Regional Council within 10 days of servicing.
Types of OSSF
There are many different types of OSSF on the market and choosing the right one can be difficult. It’s critical to check that the option you choose has been given a State Government Executive Approval or equivalent. Without the approval, your OSSF cannot be installed in Queensland.
Why choose EcoSafe?
Ecosafe’s one-of-a-kind designs offer compelling benefits over other traditional or common septic systems and HSTP’s.
Ecosafe Waste Water Treatment Systems are advanced secondary treatment plants with nutrient reduction and are fully approved by the Queensland Government.
In addition, EcoSafe is the perfect OSSF for Residential and Commercial Applications because:
- Only one service per year is required unlike other systems that require on-going 3 monthly service contracts.
- Ecosafe quotes an all-inclusive, fully installed cost. Our ‘in-place’ price includes transport, excavation, placement in position and backfilling, while other quotes only involve the factory price of the unit.
- Can operate for extended periods without power. Ecosafe is the only system on the market that can operate during an extended “power blackout” period, up to a few days (with moderately restricted water usage).
